Splashing out this Autumn

“Splashing Out” by Kevin Thorne, winner of the Small Prints Competition
Well done to Alan Stewart, our Syllabus Secretary for setting up an outstanding autumn session at Kilmaurs this year.

This period included a night of presentations by David Moulds, a winner of awards in the “Scottish Landscape Photographer of the Year” competitions. David gave us a great show of landscape photography and then described his work in “Encaustic Fine Art,” selling his work on-line and at craft fairs.

The following week, we held our informal Small Prints Competition, judged by our own members collectively, and ably won by Kevin Thorne, our president, with a superb golf shot. All prints were provided with expert commentary by our own, Robert Spence.

Later, we ventured down to join Ayr Photographic Society for our annual friendly ‘Battle.’

Judged by Irvine’s Clive Watkins, this was a close-run affair. Kilmaurs members were quite apprehensive prior to the judging, especially as Ayr had recently taken the Scottish trophy at the Scottish Federation’s projected image competition. Well, satisfyingly, Kilmaurs just edged a win 335 points to 333 points, in a super show of photographic prints and images from both clubs

A great autumn season was capped off by the Rose Urie Competition and finally a tuition night where, Martin Clark and Ian Mortimer gave hands-on demonstrations of studio lighting.

An excellent series of events prior to the Xmas break.
