Nature wins out

“BFF” by Jim Stevenson

On 8th December, Tracy Ross from Irvine Camera Club presented the results of this year’s Rose Urie Competition.

The Rose Urie is a bit different in that members can choose their subject from 3 options – and these options were ‘Landscapes’, ‘Wildlife’ and ‘Leading Lines’; and clearly the most popular subject this year was the Wildlife option.

Tracy gave detailed feedback on all the prints and projected images, and in doing so provided a good deal of encouragement to the members , often expressing what she had enjoyed seeing in our images.

“Walking Home” by John Sommerville

Derek Orr and Jim Stevenson shared the top honours in this competition. Derek won out in the Monochrome prints with an incredible photo of a stag shaking rain drops off its back. Jim took the best colour print – also incredible – as he had caught a woodpecker supping water from a dripping garden tap.

The overall winner was Jim Stevenson‘s projected image, taken in Cambodia, of two elephants touching their trunks together. Titled “BFF”, this image took away the Rose Urie Rose Bowl trophy. Well done Jim!

Some of the leading projected images are shown here, and you can see that its nature that wins out this year.
